Man found shark in a lake, dead.31-08-2008 | 00:43:01 | No Comments

Rich Fasi of Traverse City ( Michigan ) says he found a dead 2-foot shark in the water while fishing on West Grand Traverse Bay on Wednesday.

The saltwater fish was a juvenile blacktip shark, said Mark Tonello, a fisheries biologist from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Tonello said someone might have caught the shark off the Atlantic Coast and kept it on ice while bringing it to northern Michigan, or it could have been dumped by someone who had kept it as a pet.

Personal Opinion : Fishing did really cause some miracles recently, like this.

Free pizza for price protesters28-08-2008 | 06:17:51 | No Comments

“Pizzaioli” or pizza chefs in Naples, given out free pizzas in protest at high prices charged by rivals who they say, use the spike in commodity prices to rip off consumers.

In the city where the classic “Margherita” with mozzarella, tomato and basil topping was invented in the 19th century — and named in honor of a queen with a taste for fast food — 30 cooks lit up six wood-burning ovens to cook 5,000 thin-crusted Neapolitan pizzas for queues of local people and tourists.

The group staged the protest in Piazza Dante to demand stricter price controls to defend the reputation of a traditional Neapolitan product which they said should be “the synthesis of quality and low cost.”

Commodity prices, like fuel prices, have fallen back from record highs in the past month on worries about global consumer and business demand as the world economy heads into a slowdown. But retail prices have so far failed to reflect that trend.

“Everything has become more expensive now, including pizza, for people who need to watch what they spend,” said 19-year-old Arianna Masiello, taking advantage of the free pizza offer.

Pizzaioli in Naples favor fixing the price of a slice at 3-3.50 euros ($4.40-$5.15) — when most pizza outlets charge a minimum of 4 euros and often nearly twice that much.

“In Naples and elsewhere in Italy that should be enough to cover costs and give a profit margin, without damaging quality,” Sergio Miccu, president of the Association of Neapolitan Pizza Cooks, told Reuters.

The Treasury says that in June the price of pasta jumped more than 30 percent and that of bread more than 13 percent, and consumers are feeling the pinch.

Italians are likely to spend an additional 2,000 euros per family on food and energy bills this year.

Italy’s biggest consumer group wants shoppers to observe a “bread strike” on September 18 after last year’s “pasta strike.”

Man got pepper-sprayed and jailed for laughing at TV26-08-2008 | 03:28:38 | No Comments

Chris Cocker, 36, from Blackburn laughed so hard while watching BBC TV’s Have I Got News For You that he fell off the sofa. A neighbour in the flat below heard the thud and called police.

“I fell off the settee in hysterics and hit the floor and got myself up and started carrying on watching the telly and the next thing I know there was a knock on the door,” Mr Cocker said.

The knock was from police officers, but Mr Cocker was not happy to see them and refused to co-operate.

“The bit where I lost it the most was when I shut the door and the policeman had stuck his foot in the doorway and was refusing to let me shut my own front door,” he said.

Police then pepper-sprayed Mr Cocker, bundled him into a police van and took him to a police station where he said he was stripped naked and made to spend a night in a jail cell.

Lancashire Police said the officers used the pepper spray after fearing for their safety when Mr Cocker became aggressive.

Mr Cocker admitted in court that he had resisted a police officer. He was given a conditional discharge for assault.

A Florida woman, Darra Kollios was fired by a restaurant owner for laughing. She said her boss approached her in front of a customer with one of the oddest requests she had ever heard. One day the restaurant owner came up to her and said ‘please stop laughing’ and threatened her to stop laughing or else she will be fired on the spot.

Kollios fired for laughingHowever, Kollios said she was then fired on the spot. She was truly shocked by her employer’s actions. She herself admit that she doesn’t has an odd laugh while several person that were questioned agreed. So far no one made a complaint about the laughing but somehow the restaurant owner perfers to have the restaurant quiet and cozy and Kollios laughter prevented that from happening.

Personal Opinion : This may be too much for Kollios as laughing isn’t something rude or vulgar, it’s just mere natural reaction, perhaps a conversation could prevent this odd act from being known by the world? Haha

Baby revived after pronounced dead23-08-2008 | 07:06:20 | No Comments

An Israeli in Jerusalem baby who was pronounced dead by doctors “revived”  after spending hours in a hospital refrigerator. The sign of life was found when they noticed some movement inside the plastic wrap.

The hospital deputy director Moshe Daniel said that this could not be explained in medical world thus calling this a miracle.

The baby was then taken to the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit for further treatment, but doctors were not sure how long she will live.

Motti Ravid, a professor of internal medicine, told Israel’s Channel 10 that the low temperature inside the cooler had slowed down the baby’s metabolism and likely helped her survive.

Personal Opinion : I guess this miracle is related to science which is yet to be discovered, it could be the low temperature affect some metabolism or enzymes of the baby and made her survived. Anyway, may God bless this granted baby ;)

Now imagine you have a useless plastic-made barbie fishing rod, perhaps you should try to hook up a 21 pounds catfish at your riverside instead of giving it to your daughter or granddaughter?

David Hayes amazingly landed the state record channel catfish at 21 pounds, 1 ounce by using mere barbie fishing rod which belongs to his granddaughter, Alyssa. Before this record-breaking incident happened, Alyssa did catch a few bluegill with her superior fishing rod before her grandfather hauled in the catfish.
